bus drivers and “mom please stop freaking out”

2016 Oct 17
HELLOOO FAM BAM. it was my first normal week in my area! WOOHOO. last week we had zone conference, so we were back in Dnepr. haha. so, it was so so good to have my first settled week here. I love the people so much. There are 5 members, and now I’ve met 4 of them. they are all so strong, and so incredible. We are  meeting with a few people. No one is actually taking lessons yet, but we are working towards it. The investigator we’re mostly focusing on right now is  Владя. she is so funny. she’s way excited about everything in life and it’s the best. she talks so fast and i never have any idea what she’s saying, but it’s fun. Her friend seemed super interested, so we gave her a book of mormon and planned to meet with her, and then she gave it back to Владя to give to us and said she wasn’t interested. that was pretty sad. but it’s okay! we’re still going to try to be friends with her, and hopefully something with spark again at some point in her life. We made friends with the busdriver one day, it was pretty funny. we were on the wrong bus, (going in the same direction, just not as far as our stop), so we asked him and he said his route didn’t go there but we were the last ones on the bus so he said he’d take us. (yes, i know this sounds exactly like the ice cream truck driver scenario all the parents say you never do……but, we did.) hahah. no, we took a second to think about it, and both felt good, so we got back on the bus, and he took us right to the stop! it was the nicest! mom, please stop freaking out, really it’s okay. you know i wouldn’t have done it if it was as sketchy as it sounds so its okay. 🙂 haha. anyway, he was driving another one of our buses again yesterday! and we talked to him, and he was so happy to see us again, hes the best. we got talking about religion, and he said he belives something is out there but he’s not a part of any religion, so we gave him  a BOM and our number and the address to the church. he’s gold. i hope we will see him again. anway, the work in this area is incredible. It’s SO new, so it’s fun to see an area build up from the beginning. We contact very differently here than is often thought of. we call it “friend making’ haha. we don’t often walk up to people and sya, “hi! we’re missionaries. we have a message.” nothing like that. we ask for directions, or ask for help with russian, and 9 times out of 10 it will lead to “where are you from? why are you in ukraine?” and then we tell them! that’s much less threatening to ukrainians. they simply won’t listen if we go with the usual approach. we often take our name tags off actually. we leave them on for all but English practice, and then if we think it will help with a certain contact we will slip them off real quick. it’s crazy how much of a difference that actually makes. people get way freaked out by the tags, it’s interesting. bah, i’m so out of time and i need to use the rest of my time to do pictures, so i’m sorry i couldn’t tell more stories! but i am so happy. i love this work so much. it’s such a privilege to be able to focus on christ all the time. the language is hard, i don’t understand 99%  of what’s going on ever, but it’s fine. it’s fun. it will come with study and prayer. I love my district. we have so much fun when we’re all together with the members. we had a bonfire last night and it ruled. I love кривой рог! It’s the best. okay….i reallllyyy hope i can some pictures to work. LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH. HAVE THE BEST WEEK EVER. llive the dream. do something brave. read your scriptures. pray. LOVE YOU.
