I’m a Missionary Mom…

image003

This is soooo how I feel.  I’m a Latter Day Saint (LDS…Mormon) and our kids often serve Missions…boys when they are 18 and girls when they are 19.  My daughter is currently serving in Brazil, Santa Maria.  She emails EARLY every Monday.  They are my favorite days…the only contact I have with her during the Mission.  Some people wonder why the Church doesn’t allow our missionaries to call us, and while it’s difficult, I do believe that it’s the right thing.  Our son served an ASL mission in Arizona and the personal, emotional, intellectual, and Spiritual growth he experienced is quite amazing.  And so, we follow the guidelines, we write letters and email every Monday, and send packages  and we miss them like crazy.  But I wouldn’t trade all that they learn while they serve the Lord 24/7 for this season in their lives.  As parents, we aren’t the most loved by kiddos in their teen years, and so as they mature and grow a lot on their missions, they are more open to the kind of conversation we longed to have with them when they were young, but couldn’t because after all, we were WEIRD!  In our letters back and forth during these years, we connect in a way we never have before, and frankly, never will again.  It becomes a very precious thing.   I am always THIS mom…the one anxious to hear from their missionary, waiting for the email.  And yes, we look like she does in this photo on email day!  Cheers to our awesome missionaries!
